African Roots

Today in class we covered African roots a bit. More specifically, a poem pertaining to African roots. This poem was written by Langston Hughes and its name is The Negro Speaks of Rivers. Through out class we went through the poem and digested it line by line. As we read through we found a plethora of  rhetorical devices such as similes, personification and so on. We attempted to decipher their meaning in context. These of course were used by Hughes in a creative way to portray the history of African Americans in only 10 lines.
